Innova Systems and Design Icons: Celebrating innovation in Cambridge

Innova Systems and Design Icons: Celebrating innovation in Cambridge

Thursday, March 15, 2012
Cambridge is globally recognised as a hub for ideas, innovation and creativity when it comes to design and technology. It’s no surprise then that when the Design Council’s Design Fund for Growth initiative was conceived, Cambridge was quickly selected as a location for one of many design events held to highlight innovation.
Funded by this initiative, Creative Front are holding ‘Design Icons: Cambridge Innovation Festival’ to celebrate the product design community in Cambridgeshire.
The Design Icons festival kicked off on Thursday 9th February with a launch party held at Ruskin Gallery in Anglia Ruskin University. Chris Owen, the head of Cambridge School of Art, kicked off proceedings, followed by Julian Huppert,  MP for Cambridge; and Clive Grinyer, Head of Customer Experience at Cisco Systems.
Exhibits on display at the launch party showcased 20 iconic designs from Cambridgeshire over the past 40 years.
Mark Bradford, Managing Director of Innova Systems, represented the company at the launch party: “The opportunity to see so many superb designs design in and around Cambridge was truly inspiring. From the Sinclair Calculator of the 70s to the Biophotovoltaic Moss Table of today, it’s clear to see that the design community in Cambridge is second to none.”
On February 15th, Innova Systems was invited along to the Design 4: Manufacture event at the Institute for Manufacturing. Visitors to the event had the chance to get up close and personal with one of our own HP 3D Printers. They were also given a 3D Printed “Design Icon” to take away. The machine generated a lot of buzz as, understandably so, a technology set to revolutionise the prototyping and manufacturing processes.
Matt Parfitt of Innova Systems was interviewed by the Design Council on the design and engineering scene in Cambridgeshire: “Here in Cambridge, we’re very fortunate to have a very strong community who design and manufacture market-leading products that continually push boundaries. At Innova Systems, we feel privileged to play a part in the design process.”
