Consumer product design

Find out how SOLIDWORKS has helped our customers design faster, smarter and stay ahead of the competition.

SOLIDWORKS in the Consumer product design industry.

The challenge:

Sketching on paper has been, and continues to be, a pervasive medium for capturing initial ideas for others to see. However, modification and communication of your designs can take up a lot of time. What if your software could help with the process, freeing up time for other tasks …

The solution:

SOLIDWORKS helps bridge the gap between product designers and other disciplines, eliminating the inefficiencies of differing design systems and revolutionising the design process. Together with the extensive support offered as part of the Innova Systems customer package, SOLIDWORKS increases sales, improves product quality and design and lowers manufacturing costs – Whatever the size of your company.

Easy to use

The bulk of the sketching stage can be done inside SOLIDWORKS – it’s as easy to make changes in SOLIDWORKS as it is on paper.

Communicate

SOLIDWORKS software Sketch Picture allows you to open a scanned sketch or an image file onto a 2D sketch plane and display it along with other 2D and 3D geometry.

Scan to 3D

Scan shapes created in the model shop that are extremely difficult to model in CAD. Create and modify complex shapes with ease.

Faster, smarter design

Because you need to understand how strong your products are before committing to manufacture. Don’t over engineer them and build extra safety into your designs where its not needed. It will cost more than it needs to.

Right, first time

With tighter margins, there is little room for error. Avoid the risk and cost of mistakes or onsite rework by testing products concurrently while designing.

Amazing visualisations

Create incredible lifelike product renders using SOLIDWORKS Visualize. Best of all, everyone in the team can use it, regardless of design experience!

Customer success story: Villiers Brothers

Villiers Brothers have been designing and manufacturing some of the highest quality furniture in the UK since 1989. Proud to fly the Made in Britain flag, their designs are beautifully striking pieces, constructed from some of the best quality materials around – bronze, brass, copper, stainless steel, mild steel, limestone, granite, glass…

Customer success story: Fox International

Each week tens of thousands of anglers spread across the globe go fishing using Fox International tackle. With brands in the coarse, match, carp, predator and sea markets, Fox International is firmly established as one of the leading tackle manufacturers in Europe.

Prior to the introduction of SOLIDWORKS at Fox International, Chairs and Bed chairs were all designed using the traditional drawing board and then later moved over to 2D AutoCAD. Although useful tools they had many inherent constraints on the concept-development-manufacture time and accurate 3D visualisation of the products prior to receiving first samples from manufacture.

Customer success story: Cambridge Design Partnership

When Cambridge Design Partnership started development on the ‘Satmap Active 10’ sports navigation system, computer aided 3D modelling was key to their design strategy and their success.

Cambridge Design Partnership used SOLIDWORKS design tools as a powerful tool for communication between their engineers, clients, investors and retailers, ensuring that the product went to market at the right price and with all the right features.

SOLIDWORKS success story: Cool Gear

Cool Gear International designs, manufactures, and markets an innovative line of freezer bottles, storage containers, and entertaining products that use a reusable “freezer gel” to keep drinks and food cold longer.

The company’s fun, colorful product line grew out of the imagination of a talented team of artists and product designers. As Cool Gear’s product line expanded and its manufacturing operations moved offshore, however, the Adobe® Photoshop® and Illustrator® graphics packages it used to create design concepts could not provide the degree of accuracy or automation required to support large-scale manufacturing operations, according to Cool Gear Designer John Mason. “We did not use a CAD system because the product development team has a strong graphic design background and could create conceptual 2D designs using graphics packages.”

SOLIDWORKS success story: Camelbak Products, LLC.

Ever since founder Michael Eidson filled an IV bag with water, stuck it in a tube sock, and strapped it on his back to compete in the Hotter‘n Hell Hundred bike race in Texas in 1988, CamelBak Products, LLC has innovated unique ways to stay hydrated. Today, CamelBak is the leading hydration brand, expanding its initial offering of reservoir backpacks with product lines for the bottled, filtration, and military markets. The company’s Hard Goods Group, which focuses on the development of reusable bottles and containers for water and beverages, has made displacing plastic disposable water bottles its ongoing mission.
